Beyond back pain

Beyond back pain

Build a back you can trust for life, adventure & challenge

Tired of managing a bad back? Want to understand what’s causing it and deal with that instead?

Have you got better at managing your back than actually fixing the problem?

Maybe you’ve had back pain for months. Maybe years.

You’ve had scans. Been told it’s wear and tear, arthritis or disc changes.

Managing your back has become part of normal life. Stretching every morning. Strengthening your “core”. Treatment every month.  Painkillers when you need one.  Exercise gets modified.

And you put up with pain as normal.

Maybe you still do the things you love, but often there’s a price to pay. A long hike, a hard training session or a day in the garden can end with you lying on the floor in pain.

What if there's more to your back pain?

Just because something shows up on a scan doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the reason you’re in pain.

Stretching can bring relief. Strengthening can help. But neither necessarily tells you why the pain keeps happening.

Once you understand what’s behind the problem, you can start changing what’s causing it.

Change what's behind your back pain.
Change what's possible.

When you find what’s really behind your back pain and address that, life doesn’t have to revolve around managing it anymore.

You can start making plans based on what you want to do, rather than what you’re worried your back might let you do. Going for that longer hike, getting back to running or enjoying a day in the garden without expecting to pay for it afterwards.

The goal isn’t just less pain. It’s getting your freedom back.

What if your back hurts as it's working harder than it needs to?

You see a squat. I see about 20 things happening before you’ve even started moving.

Every time you bend, walk, lift or squat, your body has to organise how it moves. But just because you can do a movement doesn’t mean you’re doing it in the best way to avoid pain.

Some parts might barely move while others work overtime.

And that can mean unnecessary strain going through your back, leading to pain.  Even if you’re strong, fit and flexible.

I'm no good at accepting “that's just how it is” as the answer.

I want to know what’s actually happening.

Why is your back doing so much work? What’s happening elsewhere? And what changes when we try something different?

That’s the bit I love investigating. Not just what you can do, but how your body is actually doing it.

So we can find new ways to move, with less strain and less pain.

Stop fixing the same problems.
Start changing what causes them

Automate

Make the chnages second nature

Make your new movement skills automatic.

So your body uses them naturally in everyday life and exercise, without constant correction or slipping back into old habits.

Your body is more than muscles and movement.

My coaching looks at the bigger picture of why your body keeps causing problems. So you can learn to change what’s keeping you stuck and prevent more of the same happening again.

Mental fitness: Train your mind, not just your body.

Having a body you can trust is as much about what happens in your head as in your muscles.

Develop the mental fitness to handle challenges, make better decisions and change the habits that keep getting in the way of what you want to do.

Understand your body better. Stay ahead of setbacks.

Back pain and flare-ups can seem to come out of nowhere. Learn to recognise the warning signs, understand what your body is telling you and know what to do before you’re forced to stop.

Lasting change takes more than a handful of sessions

Getting your back feeling better matters. But that’s only the beginning.

Learning new ways to move, building them into everyday life and making them automatic takes time and practice.

That’s why we work together over several months. So you don’t just feel better, you develop the skills to keep yourself moving well long after our coaching ends.

What does a "build a body you trust" actually mean?

It doesn’t mean you’ll never have back pain again. Nobody can promise that.

It means having the movement skills to move well, not just work hard. Knowing how to keep those skills working as you get stronger, fitter and take on new challenges.

It means recognising when old habits are creeping back in, understanding what your body needs and knowing how to get things back on track.

You’re not just building a stronger body. You’re learning how to keep it in good working order, for years to come.

"I feel stronger, move better and have less pain"

“I’ve had family members encourage me to give up. Told I’d always have a bad back and be in pain, but I’m so glad I didn’t listen.

I feel stronger, move better and have less pain than I’ve had in years. My consultant said whatever you are doing, carry on!”

Is this for you?

You want more than a back that feels better. You want to trust your body, stay active and keep doing more of what you love for years to come.
