Beyond back pain

Beyond back pain

Build a back you can trust for life, adventure & challenge

Tired of managing a bad back? Want to understand what’s causing it and deal with that instead?

When managing your back
becomes normal

Maybe you’ve had back pain for months. Maybe years.

You’ve had scans, been told there’s wear and tear, arthritis or change to discs. Or you think your back is weak, your hamstrings are tight or your core needs strengthening.

And gradually, managing your back becomes part of normal life. Stretching every morning. Massage or treatment every month.  Painkillers when you need one.  Exercise gets modified. And you put up with pain as normal.

Maybe you still do the things you love, but often there’s a price to pay. A long hike, a hard training session or a day in the garden can end with you lying on the floor in pain.

At some point, it's worth asking: is your back actually getting better or are you just getting better at managing it?

What if your back isn't the whole problem?

When you walk, bend, lift, pull or run, lots of different parts of your body need to move and work together.

If some of those areas aren’t moving well, your body still has to find a way to get the job done.

And your back can end up picking up the extra work.

A back that’s always tight can be working hard to hold you together. Or a back that feels “weak” can already be doing more than its fair share.

Strengthening can make it better able to cope with that extra work. Stretching can make it feel better.

But neither changes why so much work keeps ending up there.

Getting out of pain is the first goal.
It doesn't have to be the final one.

Imagine not having to organise your life around your back.

Going for a long walk without wondering how you’ll feel afterwards. Getting back under a barbell with confidence. Running again. Gardening for the day. Carrying a pack up a mountain. Saying yes to a challenge you’d started to think wasn’t for you anymore.

The goal is to stop thinking about what your back can handle and start thinking about what you’d love to do next.

We don't just work on
your back

You can have a strong core, strong legs and strong glutes and still have a back that keeps causing problems.

Because having strength and your body knowing how to use that strength when you move are two different things.

When you bend, lift, push, walk or run, lots of small movements need to happen throughout your body. If some of them don’t happen easily, your body finds another way to get the job done.

Often you won’t even know it’s happening. You’ll just know that your back keeps getting tight, sore or overloaded.

That's the movement we're interested in changing.

Restore
Restore the movements your body is missing so your back doesn’t keep picking up the extra work.

Build
Build those movements into everyday actions, then strengthen the new patterns rather than building more strength around strain.

Automate
Practise those patterns under gradually increasing demands so your body can use them without you having to think about how you’re moving.

Then we make it yours – Your training becomes specific to what you want your body to do. Whether that’s running, hiking, lifting, sport or simply being able to do more in everyday life.

 Mental Fitness & Recovery

How well your body recovers from training and everyday life matters too. If demands keep piling up faster than you recover, your body has less room to cope before something starts complaining.

So does learning to recognise when to push, when to back off and what your body is telling you before it has to shout.

Together, this is how we build Pain Preventing Movement.

The goal is less pain across your whole body.
By building better movement and reducing unnecessary strain throughout your body, we work towards preventing pain, not just dealing with one problem at a time.

This isn't a six-session
quick fix

Feeling better matters. But that’s not where the work ends.

The aim isn’t simply to get your back feeling good enough to carry on as before. We use that as the starting point to build better movement, strength and capacity so your body becomes more robust and capable for the long term.

You’re not just trying to fix a bad back. You’re building a better body for the years ahead.

"I feel stronger, move better and have less pain"

“I’ve had family members encourage me to give up. Told I’d always have a bad back and be in pain, but I’m so glad I didn’t listen.

I feel stronger, move better and have less pain than I’ve had in years. My consultant said whatever you are doing, carry on!”

Is this for you?

You want more than a back that feels better. You want to trust your body, stay active and keep doing more of what you love for years to come.
